Default Question for All arrangers
Sup folk.
I was thinking about the state of arranging nowadays and i wondered....
what are some of the qualities of ur arrangements (past or present) that u wish u coulda changed or are trying to change?

For example, for me....ima lower brass player and i didn't want my bones playing JUST whole notes and half notes so i would have to much going on in the song, and thus taking away from the impact of the song....

what are some of yalls?

in my arrangements, try to highlight the whole band, including the woodwinds, so that every instrument is heard at one point or another because all are important. i also like to blend power with pleasure, so there are spots esp. for brass and blowing and spots for a woodwind soli all in the same arrangement

i guess giving trombones more moving part in stead of mostly whole notes. but i've notice havin tbones hop all ova a song with whole notes ,then moving part playin those same chords ,then the solo is sloppy. that why i don't like some bands arrangement. u have to have a soild base. meaning non iffy low brass parts.

I've noticed ever since 2000 hit (maybe even before then), strong trumpet sections have been hard to find in the Houston area. It's to the point that if I give the trumpets a part, I have to double it with the F-horns or baritones, or it won't be heard.

I wonder why it's like that...

I know now that I try to use more of the alto voices and baritones with the countermelody.....also I spread the melody around to all the instruments moreso than I did when I first started...
