Former SU band director pays fines

Former Southern University band Director Isaac Greggs has paid a $2,500 ethics fine for taking university money to which he was not entitled.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics approved a consent agreement Thursday that settled the case.

Discussions were conducted behind closed doors.

The ethics inquiry stemmed from a state legislative auditor’s report that uncovered nearly $17,000 in questionable expenses charged to Southern over a four-year period related to the band.

Greggs, who retired last year after a nearly 40-year career, repaid the university the funds in question.

The ethics problem involves part of the expenses identified by the auditor.

State ethics law bans a public employee from receiving anything of economic value, other than compensation and benefits from his public employer, for the performance of the duties and responsibilities of his job.

Greggs received thousands of dollars in cash advances to pay for food when Southern’s “Human Jukebox” marching band took trips.

Greggs would present receipts to Southern’s accounting department documenting expenses and return any unspent funds.

The Ethics Board found “on numerous occasions” between November 2001 and October 2004 that Greggs submitted receipts for meals that were never purchased.

The bills totaled $8,479.

The consent opinion says that, if Greggs were called to testify, he would say that on most occasions he did not prepare the information submitted to Southern’s accounting department.

They need to be auditing that Admin & Financial Aid office... for people that lose student records all the time those offices sure do keep clean records... A little too clean

so wat,we all have our own wrong doings,post that on da net,anywayz,SU aint doing to bad for money,its not like they in a morris brown state of place.....(low blow,lol)
