Default Cass Tech band director keeps kids' best foot forward
DETROIT -- For 17 years, Sharon Allen has coached, goaded, championed and directed the musicians and other members of the Cass Tech Marching Band.
Before she started in fall 1990, Cass Tech High School, touted as one of the city's gems, had no marching band.
"It's really an immense honor," said Allen. "We try to be the best."
That success, band members say, rests squarely on the shoulders of Allen, who was recruited specifically to be band director by David Snead, who was the principal at Cass Tech when Allen began there.

First off I'm not trying to hate on this lady. But I honestly believe that it was sheer timing. No other director was able to get the Cass Job back then and she came in the system at the right time. She was teaching at a middle school prior to taking the job at Cass Tech. I don't really care for her because she really showed favortism towards her students while I was in the honors band up there. I remember her telling me along with another partner of mines (who join me as a crab down at SU) back in 96 that we wouldn't and couldn't last at SU cause we were from Central. Man am I glad I proved her wrong. I honestly think if she wasn't spoon fed Cass thing may have turned out a lil differently for her. Cass was our rival only because they were looked at as the uppidy ..stuck up folks and we were viewed as the ghettoist school in Detroit.
So I will say congrats to Mrs. Allen, yet I know if I could've stayed up in Detroit..I would have chopped her head so swift and smooth all the alumni over at Cass would've been aiming for my head lol
